Riga Photomonth 2016 concludes

The International Festival Riga Photomonth which offered 10 exhibitions and more than 30 events under the subject Territories, Borders and Checkpoints concluded on June 16.  More than 20,000 viewers visited the events organised by the festival Riga Photomonth 2016. Due to the public programme with lectures, discussions, film screenings as well as portfolio reviews for professionals, Riga became a meeting point for both the enthusiasts of photography and professionals of the industry – artists, photographers, curators, and publishers from 14 countries around the world.

Guests and visitors of the festival appreciated the festival events: the core exhibitions Territories and Self Publish Riga at the Latvian Railway History Museum, as well as the wide variety of discussions and public talks. Some of the festival exhibitions will also be available after the end of Riga Photomonth: the exhibition by JH Engström JHE at the Latvian Museum of Photography will be open until June 26, the final exhibition of the ISSP graduates Inverted Space at Kaņepe Culture Centre until June 19, the exhibition by Laura Igovena and Ģirts Reiniks The Vanishing Point at the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art until June 22, and the exhibition by Reinis Hofmanis Nomaļus at Vīna Studija until September 12.

Furthermore, the best emerging photographer in Latvia was named – the FK award was presented to Luīze Nežberte (b. 1998). 170 photobook dummies were submitted to the international self-published book competition Self Publish Riga 2016 where an international jury shortlisted and picked the winner; their choice came to the book My Air Force by Czeck artist Vojtěch Veškrna.

The festival embraced openings of two books – the newly published photobook Schema by Alexander Gronsky and Ksenia Babushkina and the FK magazine’s Latvian Photography 2016 introducing readerships to 5 women photographers in Latvian photography.

The next events of the festival Riga Photomonth are expected to take place in May 2017.
